Field Hockey Falls, 2-1, to MAC Champion Kent State

MOUNT PLEASANT - The first shot of the match went in favor of the Central Michigan University field hockey team when Kelly Jordan netted a goal on an pass by Erica Takach, but the final score did not go in the Chippewas' favor as Kent State won, 2-1.
KSU wrapped up the Mid-American Conference regular season championship by finishing the conference slate 8-12 overall, 8-2 in the MAC. CMU drops to 7-11, 4-5 in the MAC. The Chippewas have lost six of the last seven games.
"Kent State was able to control the second half," CMU head coach Cristy Freese said. "We played very well defensively, but we were not able to convert on our scoring opportunities."
CMU put its lone goal on the scoreboard just under four minutes into the match. Jordan netted her seventh goal of the season when she tapped in a shot off a rebound from Takach.
Takach now has 12 assists on the season, where she ranks fourth all-time on the CMU season list. Megann Burns (1997) holds the record with 16 assists. With Takach's feat in the match, her 17 career assists moves her into the top 10 career assist category. She is tied for 10th with Dacy Thorpe (1986-89) and Karen Karner (1975-77).
The Golden Flashes tied the game in the 33rd minute when the reigning MAC Offensive Player of the Week, Liz Fettrow, scored her first of two goals in the match from Berber Rischen. Fettrow tallied her second goal in the 53rd minute on an assist again from Rischen.
The Chippewas kept the Golden Flashes shotless for the first 25 minutes, but KSU still managed to outshoot CMU (18 to 8) in the game. KSU took 14 shots in the second half and held CMU to just two shots. The Golden Flashes also edged the Chippewas in penalty corners (10 to 8).
KSU goalkeeper Linz Markwart stopped five shots in the win, while CMU keeper Danielle Frank made a season-high 13 saves. Chippewa back Erin Dottery made a defensive save as well.
CMU hosts its final regular season game tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Ohio. The Chippewas will recognize their four seniors prior to the match.
CMU also hosts the MAC Tournament next weekend on November 3-5.
