MOUNT PLEASANT-- Friday night was the Central Michigan University Chippewas' last chance to put all the pieces together before next weekend's Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship meet. And put all the pieces together they did at the Jack Skoog Open.
"We came out solid tonight," said coach Karen Lutzke. "Some improvements were made. Overall, we're getting better. Each week we have faster times, higher vaults, and further jumps. We're just where we need to be right now."
Ariss Seals won the 60m dash to with a time of 7.69 and provisionally qualified herself for the NCAA championships. Jenaie Edwards also took first-place in the 400m dash with a time of 56.29.
Danielle Quisenberry ran her way to a first-place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:06.67 and Lisa Krueger contributed with another first-place finish for the Chippewas in the 600m run.
In the field events, Jackie Smart took first in the triple-jump with a 40-5 1/2 leap and Katie Davis finished first in the shot put with a throw of 49-5.
But, the weekly theme seems to be Tamera Thomas. Once again she broke her school-record time in the 60m hurdles with an impressive 8.38 time. "Tamera ran very well tonight and probably moved up in the provisional qualifier ranks," said coach Lutzke.
The Chippewas will look to defend their MAC title this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26, at the 2005 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by CMU.
