Guikema Takes First in 800, Four Runners Earn Top Ten Finishes at Jim Green Invitational

Maya Guikema notches gold in 800 to cap off Jim Green Invitational
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Track & Field finished off the Jim Green Invitational, hosted by Kentucky, Saturday afternoon.
The highlight of the day came in the 800m, when Maya Guikema took home first place with a time of 2:10.08. This was her first time finishing in the top spot in the 800m in her career.
Three other Chippewas placed in the top ten in the 800m. Jessie Gibbins placed fifth with a time of 2:13.05. Lois Creasey ran a 2:15.54, placing eighth. Eva Thompson rounded out the top ten with a time of 2:16.09
A string of personal bests from Logan Brazee, Ava Teed, and Kate Jenkins in the 5000m added on to a successful day. Brazee ran a 17:27.94, placing ninth. Teed ran a 17:26.98, placing eighth. Jenkins placed in the top five with a time of 16:56.17, good for fourth overall. Miranda McNeil added an 18:20.22 for 15th.
Linnearia Richards made it to the final in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.22 seconds. She would place eighth overall in the final with a time of 14.28 seconds.
"Everyone did a great job rallying good performances today, we had some big PR's by the 5k girls," Central Michigan Director of Track & Field Jenny Swieton said of the team's performance, "We're super proud of Emily McLean and how consistent she's been in the shot put this season."
The day kicked off at the discus as Victoria Merrick threw 48.20 meters, good for seventh in the meet.
Emily McLean and Ereka Risner threw in the shot put. McLean logged a 14.17m throw on her final attempt, and Risner threw a 12.64m on her second attempt.
Sophia Garland placed eighth in the 100m with a time of 11.88 seconds. Andrea Merin joined Garland in the event and posted a 12.64-second finish.
Danica Shamion ran a 55.10 in the 400m for an eighth-place finish. Libby Munderloh, Ella Sweatt, and Robyn Watts rounded out the Chippewas' group in the 400m. Munderloh logged a 56.68 finish, Sweatt posted 56.76, and Watts recorded 57.48 seconds.
The Chippewas head to Ann Arbor on May 8 for the Len Paddock Open, hosted by Michigan, the final meet before the MAC Outdoor Championships on May 14, 15, and 16.
