Chippewa Baseball Loses a Tough One, 7-6

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Western Kentucky rallied for three runs in the bottom the ninth inning here Friday afternoon to post a 7-6 baseball win over Central Michigan University.
CMU is now 0-4 for the season and WKU is 2-4.
The Chippewas took a 6-4 lead in the final frame but relief hurler Mike Kirschenheiter faced four batters and did not get an out. He walked the first batter, hit the second, gave up a bunt single to the next and an RBI single by pinch-hitter Steve Armstrong for a run.
James Ricchio then took over for CMU and got one out before Marcus Ross bounced a two-run single to left for the win.
Kirschenheiter takes the loss.
The Chippewas got a solid performance from starter Ty Dunham who went eight innings and gave up nine hits and four runs.
CMU scored twice in the second on a double by David Latour Jr., an RBI single by Eric Cannon and an error.
The Chippewas tied it at 3-3 in the sixth on a double by Troy Moratti and back-to-back groundouts, the second by Kurtis Wells for an RBI.
CMU made it 5-3 in the seventh when Latour singled, took second when Cannon was hit by a pitch. They both moved up on Brian Campbell's sacrifice bunt. J.T. Jones drove in one run when he was safe on an error and the second runa also scored on an error.
The Chippewas added a run in the eighth when Bryan Mitzel doubled and scored on Campbell's single
The two teams will play a doubleheader here Saturday beginning at noon (CST).
