Chippewa Bats Come to Life

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- After being blanked by a 4-0 margin Saturday on a two-hitter, Central Michigan University's baseball team found its hitting shoes here Sunday in rolling to a 7-3 non-league win over Youngstown State.
The Chippewas pounded four YSU hurlers for 15 hits to raise their record to 13-7. CMU won the three-game set with the Penguins, 2-1. The visitors won 3-2 on Saturday in 10 innings before being zipped in the nightcap.
Trailing by a 3-2 margin going into the sixth on Sunday, coach Steve Jaksa's Chippewas scored twice in the sixth, once in the seventh and two more times in the ninth to win going away.
Sophomore lefty Jayson Ruhlman was the starter and winner for CMU. He went six and one-third frames to raise his record to 4-1. He allowed six hits and allowed three earned runs while walking four and fanning four.
Junior Mark Lundquist went one and two-third innings of one-hit shutout ball in relief for CMU before giving way to sophomore James Ricchio who set the Penguins down in a row in the ninth.
Senior Kurtis Wells had three hits and three RBI for the Chippewas while freshman Tyler Stovall had two hits and two RBI. Also collecting two hits were Bryan Mitzel, J.T. Jones, Troy Moratti and Sean Hoorelbeke.
CMU is set to open the home season this Tuesday and Wednesday with games against Wayne State and Oakland. First pitch for both games is 3 p.m.
