BRADENTON, Fla. -- Eric Cannon's two-run double down the left field line in the second inning gave Central Michigan University's baseball team all the runs it needed in posting a 2-1 win over Sacred Heart here Monday afternoon.
The Chippewas are now 5-5 for the season. After opening the spring trip with a 10-9 loss to Connecticut on Saturday, CMU has won a pair of one-run games over Georgetown (6-5 in 10 innings) on Sunday and the 2-1 nod over Sacred Heart today. The Chippewas face Maine here on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
CMU's Jayson Ruhlman went the first seven innings to get the win . The sophomore lefty scattered eight hits and allowed one run. He struck out six and walked two.
Nathan Pung, a 6-6 junior right-hander, hurled the final two innings to claim his first save. He gave up just one hit and didn't walk or strike out a batter.
Cannon`s double scored Jeff LaFavors and Ryan Peel who had reached on a single and walk, respectively.
CMU finished with just five hits and SH had nine.
