Chippewa Baseball Rolls by Maine, 16-6

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Central Michigan University's baseball team put on its hitting uniforms here Tuesday afternoon and rolled to a 16-6 victory over the University of Maine.
The Chippewas have now won three in a row and stand 6-5 for the season.
CMU batters raked four Black Bear hurlers for 19 hits including four each by Jim Geldhof and Kurtis Wells. Geldhof homered, drove in three runs and scored tthree runs while Wells had a triple and a double and plated four more.
Other hitting heroes were Jeremy Crum with three hits and three runs, Bryan Mitzel with two hits and three RBI, and David Latour with a hit and two RBI.
Freshman right-hander Josh Collmenter was the beneficiary of the hitting outburst and picked up his second win of the season against no losses. The 6-4, 235-pounder took an 11-2 lead into the sixth but walked the first two batters and was replaced by Mike Kirschenheiter.
Collmenter allowed five hits and four earned runs while walking six and fanning two.
Kirschenheiter tossed a strong three innings, giving up four hits and one run. Redshirt freshman Andy Wingert pitched the final frame and allowed one hit and one unearned run.
CMU is idle on Wednesday but returns to action here Thursday against Eastern Kentucky at 10:00 a.m.
