MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ty Dunham and 11 hits proved to be a magical combination here Friday afternoon in Central Michigan Universty's 6-2 win over Ball State University in Mid-American Conference baseball action.
The win was CMU's fourth straight, raising its record to 20-12 for the season and 3-4 in loop action. The Cardinals fall to 21-11 overall and 8-2 in MAC contests.
Dunham, a gritty junior, scattered eight hits and allowed two earned runs while walking two and striking out seven. The complete game win evened his record at 3-3.
CMU scored two runs in the first off BSU loser Joe Ness (4-2) and never trailed. With one out, Jim Geldhof doubled, moved to third on Troy Moratti's singled and scored on a BSU error on the play. Kurtis Wells doubled Moratti to third and Bryan Mitzel's single plated Moratti.
The Chippewas made it 3-0 in the third on an RBI single by Noah Lankford.
The Cardinals whittled the margin to one, 3-2, in the sixth on solo homers by Brad Miller and Kyle Digert.
CMU exploded for three tallies in the ninth to ice the decision. Moratti was hit by a pitch, took second on a wild pitch and third on a single by Wells. David Latour Jr. then singled in one run and Brian Campbell pushed in a second on a suicide squeeze. Latour touched home with the final marker on a wild pitch.
