MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University baseball winning streak is over.
Michigan State made sure of that here Tuesday with an 11-0 win over the Chippewas.
CMU's 11-game winning streak started right after dropping a 9-8 decision to MSU at Lansing's Olds Park.
The Chippewas are now 35-21 while the Spartans go to 21-28.
It was over early as MSU scored eight earned runs off CMU sophomore starter Jayson Ruhlman who went the first four and two-third frames. He allowed eight hits, four walks, hit two more batters and struck out six to fall to 4-3.
MSU's Mark Sorenson (1-0) collected the win, scattering five hits in six shutout innings of work. He walked just one and whiffed three.
The Spartans pounded three Chippewa hurlers for 17 hits including four by Troy Krider and three by Erik Morris. Kris Morris, Steve Gerstenberger, Erik Morris and Krider all drove in two runs.
CMU's trio of pitchers were generous. In addition to the 17 safeties, the Chippewa hurlers walked eight and hit three more.
Junior J.T. Jones was the lone Chippewa with multiple hits (two) and he threw out three guys from his right field post.
CMU has one last non-conference game -- at Oakland on Wednesday -- before closing the Mid-American Conference season at home this weekend for three games with Eastern Michigan. Friday's game will begin at 3 p.m.
