Baseball Notches 4-3 Victory Over Saginaw Valley

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 come-from-behind home victory over Saginaw Valley on Monday afternoon.
The Chippewas improve to 31-15 while SVSU falls to 31-15.
CMU began its rally with one out in the ninth when third baseman David Latour singled to centerfield. Noah Lankford was next up and he blasted a double to the gap in left center that would plate Latour to tie the game at three. A strikeout by Tyler Stovall gave the Chippewas two outs, but Eric Cannon ended the contest with a double to left center to score Lankford.
Mark Lundquist got the and improved to 4-0 overall. Lundquist pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit. Chippewa starter Jayson Ruhlman went the first seven frames and gave up three runs, two that were earned, six hits, struck out three and walked two.
Saginaw Valley used six different pitchers with Kori Garman taking the loss. Garman pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up two runs, three hits and struck out two.
The Cardinals got on the board first with two runs in the second inning. Brandon Fanion scored the first run on a double by Danny Patterson and Chris Norton crossed the plate after a single by Justin Doughty.
CMU got one back in the bottom half of the second when Latour scored on a double by Stovall. Stovall tied the game in the fifth when he crossed the plate after a single by centerfielder Jeremy Crum.
SVSU took the lead in the top half of the seventh as Joe Funsch scored when Justin Hanning reached on an error by the shortstop with two outs.
Latour led the way for CMU at the plate by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Crum, Lankford and Stovall also had two hits.
