MOUNT PLEASANT -- Get fired up for the start of the Central Michigan University football season at Fire Up Fest, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Eat popcorn, sno-cones and pizza from the "Best Pizza in Mount Pleasant" contest. Throw a football or kick a field goal in the inflatable games area. Tour the Kelly/Shorts press box, meet the CMU football players, and see the marching band, cheerleaders and dance team perform. Free T-shirts and gifts go to the first 500 through the gates.
The festival wraps up with Coach Brian Kelly taking the stage to fire up the crowd and begin the countdown to kickoff.
The public is invited to the free Fire Up Fest.
"Everyone is welcome," said Spencer Long, a student on the Fire Up Fest planning committee. "We want to promote school spirit around campus and get everyone fired up for the Indiana game."
CMU opens its home football season Sept. 2 with a night game against Indiana University -- the first time a Big Ten team has played at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Fire Up Fest is coordinated by the Student Alumni Association, athletics, student life and university recreation.
