Volleyball drops MAC Opener to WMU, 3-0

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Twin sisters proved to be too much for the Central Michigan University volleyball team as CMU dropped its Mid-American Conference opener at Western Michigan on Friday night, 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-18).
The Chippewas fall to 3-8 on the year, 0-1 in the MAC while WMU improved to 8-3, 1-0 in the conference.
Bronco senior middle blocker Shaylen Jackson tallied a team-high 12 kills in the match with a .391 hitting percentage. She also led her squad with five total blocks. Her twin sister Shannon, an outside hitter, recorded seven kills with no errors on just 10 attempts, an attacking percentage of .700.
Kate Fissel led CMU with 12 kills, also adding two service aces for 14.0 total points. Senior libero Ali McCrite led the defense with 15 digs and setter Courtney Kersten recorded 32 assists.
WMU notched 46 kills compared to just 36 for the Maroon and Gold. The Broncos also outhit CMU, .262-.095, and had 10 team blocks while the Chippewas tallied just five.
The Chippewas get right back on the court as they play at Northern Illinois tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. CDT.
