Volleyball Drops Tight Affair at NIU, 3-2

DeKALB, Ill. - Career outings by Sarah Warner and Mary Ochmanek were not enough for the Central Michigan University volleyball team as it lost a nip and tuck battle at Northern Illinois on Saturday evening , 3-2 (30-24, 27-30, 28-30, 30-27, 15-13).
CMU falls to 3-9, 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference while NIU improves to 8-8, 1-1 in the MAC.
Warner tallied a career-high 23 kills with an attacking mark of .395 while Ochmanek recorded her second double-double of the week with 12 kills and 17 digs, both career highs for the junior. Ochmanek also hit .450 in the match and had a career-high five blocks.
Two other Chippewas recorded double-digit kills, Kate Fissel (16) and Whitney Evers (13). Evers also led the team with six total blocks. Ali McCrite notched a team-high 16 digs in the contest and Courtney Kersten dished out a career-high 66 assists.
MAC kills leader Kate McCullagh led the Huskies with a match-high 29 kills. She also hit .275 in the affair. Gina Guide led the NIU defense with a match-high 22 digs.
CMU ended up with five more kills then NIU, 76-71, and outhit the Huskies, .217-.215. The Chippewas also tallied three more team blocks, 11-8, and nine more digs, 68-59. The match was a back and forth affair with 47 ties and 22 lead changes.
CMU begins a four-match homestand next Friday, Sept. 30, as it hosts Eastern Michigan. The contest with take place in Rose Arena at 7 p.m.
