MOUNT PLEASANT - Even with 29 Chippewa shots to 11 RedHawk shots, the Central Michigan University field hockey team dropped a 2-1 overtime loss to Miami on Friday afternoon. CMU led the match, 1-0, until the 67th minute.
The RedHawks improve to 5-5, 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference as the Chippewas drop to 5-5, 2-1 MAC.
"We played very well in the first half," CMU head coach Cristy Freese said. "We didn't control the second half like we did in the first. Miami is a very good offensive team and I was happy to limit their team to one goal in regulation, but was disappointed with how we played on offense. We had a poor offensive performance, and we need to put more goals in the net with 29 shots."
The only CMU goal was netted by Samantha Sandham, her second of the season, from an Erica Takach assist in the 12th minute. Takach leads the team with seven assists and is one away from joining the CMU top-10 season list.

"Erica is really taking control in games," Freese said.
The 1-0 Chippewa edge disappeared with just under four minutes left in regulation. Elizabeth Gilroy nailed her first goal of the season on a penalty corner using a tipped rebound off CMU goalkeeper Danielle Frank at 66:02.
Then, with under a minute left in overtime, Courtney Fretz one-timed the match-winning goal from Keri von Kalinowski.
The victorious goalkeeper was Kerri Orr with 20 saves. CMU's Frank stopped eight shots in the loss.
The loss was CMU's first in overtime games this season (3-1).
The Chippewas are back in action at home again tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Ball State.
