COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Central Michigan University women's soccer team struggled to produce offense here today and was shut out for the first time this season, losing its second match of the weekend in Colorado Springs, this time to Air Force, 2-0. The Chippewas, who fell to 1-2-1 on the year, generated only five shots in the match.
"We got strong play from a few individuals, but we didn't get a collective effort from the whole team," head coach Tony DiTucci said. "We're not going to win with individual effort. We're going to win when we play together as a team the way we're capable of playing."
Air Force grabbed a quick lead in the match, scoring in the fifteenth minute on a goal by Corbin Sanford. The Falcons (2-2-0) added an insurance goal late in the match, as Brittney Perkowski notched her second goal of the year in the 83rd minute to provide the final margin for Air Force. The Falcons outshot CMU 9-5, and goalkeeper Jennifer Drew was forced to make just two saves to earn the win.
"We made too many mistakes," DiTucci said. "Our inability to defend and attack collectively on a consistent basis is what is causing us problems."
CMU has a week off to regroup and get ready for its next match. The Chippewas will host Cincinnati on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at the CMU Soccer Complex.
