CMU Postgame Notes – October 19, 2006
CMU is 5-0 in the Mid-American Conference for just the third time in school history. The Chippewas also started 5-0 in 1979 and 1990, eventually winning MAC championships both seasons.
Ontario Sneed ran for 121 yards on Thursday night, his first 100-yard game of the season and fifth of his career. His 44-yard touchdown run on the first snap from scrimmage was his first rushing touchdown of the season and his longest run this season.
The 88-yard touchdown pass from Dan LeFevour to Obed Cétoute is the Chippewas’ longest play from scrimmage in 2006. It was a career-long throw for Lefevour and career-long reception for Cétoute.
CMU is 4-0 this season when it holds a lead at halftime.
The Chippewas have scored at least 17 points in the first half of three of the past four games.
CMU is now 5-3 in night games at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Thursday’s win over Bowling Green snapped a two-game losing streak in home night games.
Rick Albreski’s 48-yard field goal was the longest of his career and the first field goal over 40 yards of his career.
Eric Fraser’s interception return for a touchdown came on his first career interception. The Chippewas have scored four defensive touchdowns this season (three interception returns, one fumble return).
Obed Cétoute blocked a 24-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter. It was the first blocked kick for CMU this season and first blocked field goal for the Chippewas since Jacob Brown blocked a potential game-winning field goal in the final minute of a 38-37 win at Miami in 2005.
CMU has won seven straight games over MAC opponents from the state of Ohio.
Brian Kelly is now 15-15 overall as the head coach at CMU.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak to Bowling Green.
The Chippewas are 6-1 against opponents from the MAC East Division during Brian Kelly’s three seasons as head coach.
Entering Thursday’s game, CMU had scored a total of just nine points in the first quarter this season. The Chippewas scored 14 points in the opening period against Bowling Green.
Bowling Green entered the game averaging a MAC-leading 194.0 yards per game on the ground. The CMU defense held the Falcons to a season-low 130 yards rushing.
