MOUNT PLEASANT The Central Michigan University football program has collected a pair of awards courtesy of MAC Report Online.
Head coach Brian Kelly has been named the outlet’s Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, while redshirt freshman quarterback Dan LeFevour (
Kelly guided the Chippewas to their first MAC West Division title and first MAC Championship Game appearance in 2006. CMU’s seven overall wins and six conference victories are the most since 1994, and the Chippewas will finish the regular season above .500 in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1990-91. CMU’s win total has improved in each of Kelly’s three seasons at the helm.
LeFevour leads the MAC in touchdown passes (19) and total offense (244.1 ypg), ranks second in passing efficiency (136.0 rating) and third in passing yards (205.5 ypg). He posted conference-highs of five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) at Temple on Nov. 4 and 407 yards of total offense at Kentucky on Sept. 30. He has twice thrown four touchdown passes in a game, tied for the most in the MA C in 2006. LeFevour has led CMU in rushing four times and has thrown 19 touchdown pass, the second-most in a season at CMU and already tied for the eighth-most in a career.
CMU (7-4 overall, 6-1 MAC) closes the regular season at Buffalo on Friday at 1 p.m. The Chippewas will face Ohio in the MAC Championship Game at Ford Field in Detroit on Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. ESPN will televise the contest.
The MAC News Media Association will announce its postseason award winners next week in conjunction with the All-MAC team announcement.
