CLEVELAND, Ohio — Central Michigan University quarterback Dan LeFevour was named the MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week on December 7, 2006.
LeFevour completed 22-of-30 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns in CMU's 31-10 win over Ohio in the MAC Championship Game. He set a new CMU single-season record for touchdown passes (25) and became the first freshman quarterback to lead his team to a MAC title since BGSU's Brian McClure in 1982.
The redshirt freshman from Downers Grove, Ill., sports a 3.68 grade-point average as an undecided major. He is the fourth Chippewa football player to earn the Scholar-Athlete award during the 2006 season, along with fellow quarterback Brian Brunner, defensive end Daniel Bazuin, and linebacker Doug Kress
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
LeFevour and the Chippewas have been awarded a bid to the Motor City Bowl, on December 26, at Ford Field in downtown Detroit. CMU will face Middle Tennessee State in the game, which will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and be shown to a national television audience on ESPN.
