MIDLAND, Mich. - Eastern Michigan pitcher Aimee Woodrum and consistent rainy conditions slowed down the Central Michigan University Softball team in the first Mid-American Conference Tournament game for both teams on Thursday morning.
Woodrum tossed a four-hitter as the No. 5-seeded Eagles shut out the No. 4-seeded Chippewas, 6-0.
The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night but was postponed until Thursday morning because of wet conditions.
EMU put four runs on the board in the third inning after a leadoff walk, error, three straight RBI singles and a fielder's choice RBI.
MAC Player of the Year Lauren Clark added a two-run homer in the fourth inning for her MAC leading 13th of the season. It also tied the EMU career record (19).
The game featured a 26-minute rain delay in the middle of the second inning.
Starter Ali Pettit (8-5) suffered the loss. It snapped her eight-game winning streak. She lasted two innings and gave up four hits and four runs (three earned) while fanning one. Jessica Garvin was brought on in relief in the top of the third with nobody out. She gave up six hits, including the homer to Clark. Garvin struck out six and walked one.
Woodrum improved to 9-6 with the win. She went the distance and fanned seven.
