MOUNT PLEASANT - Senior Brittany Decker is the recipient of the 2006 Beth Pawlak Award. The Pawlak Award is the only honor the Central Michigan University softball team hands out each year.
The award began in 1998 as a memorial to former player Beth Pawlak who was killed in an automobile crash during the winter of her junior season. The award is voted on by team members and it recognizes a dedicated player whose leadership, hard work and positive attitude serve as an inspiration to those she encounters on and off the field.
Decker was a team tri-captain this past season while catching and playing left field. She was considered a team catalyst on the field with her vocal enthusiasm. Decker hit leadoff for the second half of the year and she ended up batting a career best .247 during her final season.
The Thorton, Colo., native hit a team-high four homers in 2006 while driving in 17 runs.
Decker's nine career home runs tie for 10th in the CMU record book.
