CMU Picked Fourth in MAC Preseason Football Poll

MOUNT PLEASANT – Central Michigan University has been predicted to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference’s West Division, according to the MAC News Media Association Preseason Poll.
Northern Illinois and Akron were tabbed as the favorites to defend their 2005 titles in the West and East Division, respectively. NIU received 39 of a possible 50 first place votes, while Akron was listed on 35 ballots to win the East. The Huskies were chosen by 37 voters to win the MAC Championship Game.
CMU returns 33 lettermen from last season’s squad that finished 6-5 overall, 5-3 in the MAC. It was the Chippewas’ first winning season since 1998 and marked the first time CMU had defeated six Division I-A opponents in the same season since 1994. The Chippewas were tied for third in the MAC West last season.
CMU opens the 2006 season at home on Thursday, Aug. 31, hosting Boston College at 6 p.m. ESPN2 will televise the contest live to a national audience. The Chippewas report for preseason camp on Aug. 4.
