CMU Notes
Thursday's announced attendance of 25,418 is the largest at Kelly/Shorts Stadium since 2001, when 27,413 fans watched the Chippewas' MAC opener against Toledo.
CMU has dropped four straight season openers.
CMU is 8-2 in its last 10 home openers.
The Chippewas are now 4-3 all-time in night games at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. All seven games have been season openers.
Obed Cetoute recorded a new career high with 102 yards receiving against Boston College.
Red Keith posted a game-high 15 tackles against BC, just one short of his career high.
Thursday's game was the 14th decided by seven points or fewer since Brian Kelly took over as head coach in 2004. Last season, the Chippewas played eight games decided by seven points or less. CMU is 7-7 in games decided by seven points or less under Kelly.
Tony Mikulec's 5-yard run on a fake field goal on fourth-and-two in the third quarter was his first career rushing attempt.
Boston College averaged 145 yards per game rushing in 2005. CMU's defense, which allowed a MAC-low 113.7 yards per game rushing in 2005, held BC to 85 yards on 32 carries (2.7 ypc) on Thursday.

With a victory, Tom O’Brien is now 67-42 in 10 seasons as head coach at Boston College. He is one win shy of tying Joe Yukica’s school record 68 victories. Yukica amassed a 68-37 record from 1968-77.
Boston College improves to 7-3 in season-opening games under O’Brien and improves to 4-2 in season-opening games under O’Brien on the road.
Individual Notes
QB Matt Ryan improves to 6-0 as a starter over the past two seasons. He has now thrown for 200 yards or more in six of his seven career starts. Ryan’s 354 yards passing marks a career high, surpassing his previous mark of 256 yards set at the 2005 MPC Computers Bowl in Boise, Idaho. Ryan has thrown for a career-best three touchdowns for the second straight game (2005 MPC Computers Bowl).
WR Tony Gonzalez’s fourth-quarter touchdown reception marked his team-high eighth of his career.
WR Kevin Challenger’s fourth-quarter touchdown marked the third of his career. Challenger recorded one touchdown reception in each of his first two seasons.
PK Ryan Ohilger’s 44-yard field goal in the first quarter marked the second longest of his career. It also marked his fifth collegiate field of 40 or more yards.
RB Brian Toal’s one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter marked his first of the season and seventh of his career.
Toal’s interception late in the fourth quarter marked the first INT of his career.
TE Ryan Purvis fumble recovery and 3-yard touchdown reception marked the first touchdown of his collegiate career.
LB Robert Francois’ third quarter forced fumble marked the first of his career.
WRs Clarence Megwa and Rich Gunnell each registered their first career receptions.
DE Austin Giles, SS Paul Anderson, WR Kevin Challenger, OG Ryan Poles, C Kevin Sheridan and WR Tony Gonzalez each registered the first start of their collegiate careers.
