Postgame Notes – CMU at Eastern Michigan
September 23, 2006
CMU is 2-0 in MAC play for the first time since 1998.
The Chippewas have won four of their past five MAC road games.
Bryan Anderson set new career highs for receptions and receiving yards for the second week in a row against Eastern Michigan. He followed a seven-catch, 95-yard performance against Akron with an eight-reception, 125-yard game at EMU on Saturday. His game-winning touchdown catch in overtime was the first touchdown reception of his career.
CMU is now 4-3 all-time in overtime contests, including 2-2 against Eastern Michigan. The Chippewas have won their last two overtime contests, including a 31-24 victory at Ball State in the 2005 season finale.
Brian Brunner’s 39-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was the first touchdown run of his career. Duane Brooks scrambled for 39 yards late in the second quarter. Those runs are the second-longest from scrimmage for CMU this season, behind only Dan LeFevour’s 41-yard scamper in the opener against Boston College.
CMU was shut out in the first half at Eastern Michigan. It was the first time CMU has been shut out in a half since the second half of last season’s game at Penn State.
The Chippewas have won two straight games at Rynearson Stadium, including a 47-21 decision in 2002.
The 94-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter was CMU’s longest scoring drive in terms of yards this season.
Justin Gardner’s six receptions at Eastern Michigan set a new career high.
Red Keith made a team-high 13 tackles against the Eagles, the fourth-highest single game total in his career. Mike Ogle set a new career high with 12 tackles, while Pacino Horne made 11 tackles, just one short of his career high.
EMU’s Andrew Wellock (6-of-6) and CMU’s Rick Albreski (3-of-3) entered the game as two of just 11 kickers in Division I-A still perfect with at least three attempts. The pair combined to make just 2-of-5 field goal attempts on Saturday, with Wellock making 1-of-3 and Albreski splitting a pair of attempts.
The Chippewas are now 9-7 in games decided by seven points or less under Brian Kelly. Sixteen of the 26 games (62 percent) during the Kelly era have been decided by seven points or less.
