CMU-Army Postgame Quotes

CMU Head Coach Butch Jones
On the game: "This was another good team win for us. Our defense played well and took the ball away. I can’t say enough about the leadership of our seniors. We were ready to play today."
On QB Dan LeFevour, who Jones initially recruited to CMU four years ago: "I thought Dan had a chance to be special. He had those intangibles that you look for in a quarterback leadership, he was bright and intelligent and he’s taken advantage of his opportunity to play. He keeps getting better. I thought he managed the game today very well."
On the play of the offense: "Our game plan was a combination of playing to our strengths and taking what Army’s defense was giving us. We thought our best chance was to get our guys out in space today, because Army is a physical football team."
On the play of the defense: "I thought our defense played very well today. Josh gave us a huge lift in the secondary, and our defensive line was very effective. During practice on Thursdays, we end with a variety of two-minute situations with our number one’s on offense and defense squaring off. Watching our defense on Thursday, I could tell they were ready to play."
On the team’s three-game winning streak: "I think we’re growing up as a team. I’ve said this many times before, because we have such a young team with a lot of freshmen and sophomores, every game is a new experience. Our older players are teaching our young players what it means to be a Central Michigan Chippewa, and we’re learning from our mistakes every day."
On next week’s game at Clemson: "I think we have a lot of confidence going into next week. We’ve played some great teams out of our conference this season, and Clemson is another great team. I’m excited to experience playing in the environment at Clemson with the big crowd and the atmosphere on its campus, and I’m excited to see how our kids respond to that."
Army Head Coach Stan Brock:
I’m disappointed in how we played today. I’m disappointed in turning the ball over seven times. We didn’t play nearly well enough to win. We are probably lucky that CMU only scored 47 points.
