CMU’s captains for the Ball State game were Ike Brown, Red Keith and Eric Tunney.
The Chippewas are 3-0 in conference play for the second consecutive season. CMU last started 3-0 in the MAC in consecutive seasons in 1980 and 1981.
Dan LeFevour ran for a career-high 146 yards, becoming the first CMU quarterback to rush for 100 yards in a game since Kent Smith ran for 122 yards in a 38-37 win at Miami in 2005. LeFevour finished with a school-record 506 yards of total offense (360 passing, 146 rushing), the highest single-game total in school history and third-most in Mid-American Conference history.
CMU’s 658 yards of total offense were a school record and the 11th-highest single-game total in MAC history. The 58 points were the most in a conference victory since a 63-14 win over Eastern Michigan in 1981.
CMU and Ball State combined for 96 points, the most in a CMU game since the Chippewas and Eastern Michigan combined for 119 in a four-overtime contest in 2004. It is the most points scored in a regulation game since CMU and Navy combined for 97 points in the 2003 season finale.
LeFevour’s five touchdown passes increased his career total to 37, moving him into second on the school’s career touchdown pass list.
LeFevour now has 5,390 yards of total offense in his career, the fifth-most in school history. He is just the fifth player in school history to eclipse 5,000 yards of total offense.
CMU has won four straight meetings against Ball State, its longest winning streak in the series since an eight-game streak from 1979-86.
Sixty-two players participated in Saturday’s game. Of the 62 who played, 21 were either true or redshirt freshmen.
Justin Hoskins has scored six touchdowns in the past four games.
True freshman Antonio Brown has scored a touchdown in three consecutive games.
True freshman Taylor Bradley’s touchdown catch in the second quarter was the first touchdown of his career. He finished with a career-high five receptions and 44 receiving yards.
Dante Love’s kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter was the first kickoff return for a score CMU has allowed since 2001.
After trailing at the end of the first quarter in each of the first four games, CMU has held leads after the first period in both of the last two games.
Bryan Anderson caught two touchdown passes in a game for the second time in his career. He finished with a career high-tying 10 receptions for a career-high 154 yards.
Andrew Aguila drilled a 51-yard field goal in the third quarter, CMU’s longest field goal since Paul Savich converted a 52-yarder against Ball State in 2001.
Redshirt freshman Carl Volny appeared in his first career game. He ran six times for 23 yards and caught his first career touchdown pass late in the third quarter.
CMU has won nine straight games played in the month of October.
CMU has scored 93 points the last two games after posting a total of 95 in the first four games combined.
