Passy Named Academic All-MAC

MOUNT PLEASANT Senior gymnast Jules Passy was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, the conference office announced today. She was the only Chippewa to make the nine-member team for gymnastics.

Passy was named to the Academic All-MAC team for the second straight year, and is one of only two members of this year’s team to repeat as a selection from 2006. Ball State’s Kelly Watson is the other repeat selection.

The Ajax, Ontario native sports a 3.58 grade-point average majoring in health fitness. She competed in every meet this season for the Chippewas, returning to regular work as an all-arounder after being limited by injury in 2006.

She was a top performer on balance beam, matching her career-high on that event with a 9.875 on Senior Day against Eastern Michigan on March 24. In the final routine of her career, she hit for a 9.800 on floor exercise at the MAC Championships, tying for second on that event.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has a excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a students-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC team is the number that is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

CMU’s gymnastics season ended at last weekend’s NCAA Central Regional competition.
