CMU’s captains for the Kansas game were senior linebacker Ike Brown, senior offensive lineman Mike Decker and senior punter Tony Mikulec.
Seven different players made their first career start for CMU against Kansas, including six on offense.
Dan LeFevour’s first career punt was downed at the Kansas 2-yard line by Duane Brooks.
True freshman Tredale Kennedy recorded his first career sack on the first play of the second quarter.
Raimond Pendleton’s 77-yard punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter was the first punt return for a touchdown allowed by CMU since 2004.
A total of 14 freshmen saw their first collegiate action at Kansas.
CMU dropped to 57-48-2 all-time in season openers with the loss. The Chippewas last won a season opener in 2002.
The 52 points allowed were the most since a 61-58, four-overtime loss to Eastern Michigan in 2004.
