CMU vs. Temple October 11, 2008
Eric Fraser recorded his third and fourth career interceptions on Saturday. It was the first time in his career that he intercepted more than one pass in a game. He is the first Chippewa to intercept multiple passes in a game since Josh Gordy tied a school record with three interceptions against Army in 2007.
Brett Hartmann’s 62-yard punt in the first quarter was his second punt of at least 60 yards in 2008.
Freshman running back Bryan Schroeder competed in his first game of the season against Temple. He is the 11th different true freshman to see playing time in 2008.
Kyle Curtis (left guard) and Allen Ollenburger (right guard) both made their first career starts on Saturday. Joe McMahon made his first career start at center after starting the season’s first five games at right guard.
Antonio Brown’s 15-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter was his first touchdown reception of the season. He finished with two touchdown receptions, the first time in his career he has caught more than one touchdown pass in a game.
Brown’s receiving touchdowns were his first via the air since the Motor City Bowl last season.
Bryan Anderson caught eight passes for 149 yards. It was the 33rd consecutive game in which he has caught a pass, the eighth-longest streak in the country.
Anderson surpassed 100 yards receiving for the 10th time in his career. It is his first 100-yard receiving game this season.
Anderson moved up on three career receiving charts in the win over Temple. His eight catches give him 191 for his career, surpassing Bryan Schorman for second place on the career receptions list and putting him one catch shy of matching Reggie Allen’s school record of 192 career receptions. Anderson moved past Damien Linson into third place on the career yardage list with 2,381 yards, and jumped one spot to tie Linson on the career touchdown receptions list with 17 scoring grabs.
Bobby Seay collected his first career interception in the fourth quarter.
Sean Murnane collected his first career solo sack, and totaled 1.5 sacks and a career-high three tackles for loss.
Brian Brunner’s touchdown pass to Bryan Anderson in the fourth quarter was his first touchdown pass since Nov. 24, 2006 at Buffalo.
Dan LeFevour became just the eighth quarterback in Mid-American Conference history to reach 10,000 yards of total offense in a career on Saturday. The junior quarterback totaled 92 yards to raise his career total to 10,007 yards of offense.
LeFevour’s 106 yards passing moved him past 8,000 yards passing for his career. He has thrown for 8,060 yards as a Chippewa.
Defensive end Frank Zombo recorded two sacks versus Temple, giving him 15 sacks for his career. That total puts him into a tie for sixth on the career sack list with Mike Kyler, Mark Dennis and Phil Zielinski.
Zombo totaled four tackles for a loss in today’s game, setting a career high for most TFL’s in a single game. He leads the team with 9.5 tackles for loss on the season.
Today’s victory was CMU’s 13th consecutive win over a MAC East opponent, including the last two MAC Championship Games. CMU is now 20-14 versus the East since the conference went to two divisions in 1997.
CMU has won its last five games when coming off a bye.
CMU won on Homecoming for the fourth consecutive season.
CMU is 18-2 in its last 20 MAC contests, its best mark since going 18-1-1 from Sept. 30, 1978 through Oct. 4, 1980.
The Chippewas are 3-0 at home this season. The last time CMU won its first three home games in a season was 1998.
CMU is 12-1 in its last 13 games played in the month of October.
Temple Notes
Central Michigan is the first team to score against Temple in the first quarter, snapping a six-game scoreless streak for Owl opponents in the opening quarter.
Junior defensive end Junior Galette matched his career-high with three sacks.
Senior wide receiver Bruce Francis has at least one reception in 33 consecutive games. His touchdown in today’s game was his 16th career scoring reception. He now needs just two more receiving touchdowns to become Temple’s career leader, matching Gerald Lucear’s record of 18.
True freshman running back Kee-Ayre Griffin rushed for a career-high 76 yards on 12 carries, including his second career rushing touchdown, a 17-yarder in the second quarter.
