Site of Tom Tresh Memorial Changed

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Former Central Michigan baseball standout Tom Tresh has passed away at the age of 71 in his home in Venice, Fla.
The former New York Yankee and 1962 Rookie of the Year helped New York to a World Series victory over the San Francisco Giants in his first season. Tresh played one season in a Chippewas’ uniform in 1957 before signing with the Yankees.
Tresh will be cremated. There will be a memorial service and dinner on Oct. 19 in Venice, Fla. The service will be held at the Unity Church of Venice, 125 N. Jackson Road. Dinner will be held at noon with the service to follow at 1:30 p.m.
There will also be a memorial service at 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Mount Pleasant on Oct. 24, 2008. The memorial will be held in Rose Center, on the campus of Central Michigan University in the Rose Multi-Purpose room, located next to the training room on the east side of Rose Center. Parking is available on the east side Rose Center/SAC in Lot 62 by the pond. Enter the building at the entrance just north of the large SAC entrance, underneath the Rose Arena sign.Follow the signs as you enter the building.
The Tresh family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the CMU Baseball Program. Send donations to Carlin Alumni House, CMU, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48859 with checks made out to CMU Baseball.
During his 10-year Major League career, Tresh played in three World Series and compiled a career average of .245. He also hit 153 homers and drove in 530 runs. The two-time All- Star, who closed his career in his hometown of Detroit in 1969, also won a Gold Glove in 1965.
As a Chippewa, Tresh batted .279 with three doubles, two triples and nine RBI in 61 at bats during his one season at CMU. He was named second-team All-Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for his efforts. Tresh worked from 1971-84 as CMU’s assistant director of placement, before joining Dean Kreiner’s coaching staff as an assistant in 1985. He would serve for 14 seasons under Kreiner from 1985-98.
