MOUNT PLEASANT - Spring practice continued for the Central Michigan University football team on Thursday. The Chippewas worked out for two hours on a chilly morning at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
News and notes as the Chippewas near the end of the fourth week of spring drills:
Quoting Coach Jones: “During the spring it’s difficult at times to judge where you are really at as a football team because you’re not playing against an opponent, you’re just playing against your selves. So, it can be hard to tell sometimes if you need to improve in a specific area or if the people you have on the other side are just that good.” - Head coach Butch Jones on his thoughts on the team to this point of the spring.
Quoting Coach Jones II: “I liked the focus and the energy we had today. I like the strides we’ve been making on defense all spring. Offensively, we need to get back to doing what we do well. We’ve been fighting the injury bug all spring, but this is a violent game and unfortunately that’s a part of it.” - Jones on Thursday’s practice.
Coaching Clinic Saturday: The CMU coaching staff will host a high school coaches’ clinic Saturday. The clinic begins with the prep coaches observing the Chippewas’ 1 p.m. practice, with breakout meetings and chalk talk sessions slated to begin immediately after practice. Jones anticipates between 100 and 175 high school coaches from across the country attending Saturday’s clinic.
Spring Game on CMU Sports Zone: CMU Sports Zone subscribers will have access to a live stream of the spring football game on Saturday, April 19 beginning at 6 p.m. The spring game will include a combination of a full 11-on-11 scrimmage as well as a group and individual competitions.
Quick Hitters: Members of the CMU football program will be volunteering with Chip Away Malaria to conduct a free football clinic on Saturday, April 26 ...
