Spring Football Game Set for Saturday

MOUNT PLEASANT Central Michigan University’s football program puts the finishing touches on spring practice with its annual spring football game Saturday, April 19.
The intrasquad scrimmage begins at 6 p.m., but the festivities surrounding the event get underway at 3 p.m. The spring game and pregame festivities are free and open to the public.
Pregame Events
- The CMU football team will be signing autographs in the Indoor Athletic Complex’s turf bay from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
- The Mid-American Conference championship and Motor City Bowl trophies will be on display in the turf bay from 3-5:30 p.m.
- A number of activities will be available for kids, including basketball hoops, soccer goals and a football toss for kids to tests their skills. Also in the turf bay will be a station for kids to try on uniforms and equipment from a variety of CMU’s teams.
- The 1100 Club and Football Alumni Club are hosting a pregame cookout for their members beginning at 4 p.m. Those club members wishing to attend can RSVP with the Chippewa Club office at 989-774-6680.
Promotions
- The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a t-shirt courtesy of the CMU Bookstore.
- One lucky fan will win a pair of sideline passes for the 2008 season opener against Eastern Illinois.
- Fans will have the opportunity to win additional prizes through in-game promotions.
The Game
- The scrimmage will feature an offense-versus-defense format and utilize a modified scoring system that allows the defense to score points by creating turnovers and forcing the offense into negative plays.
- A portion of the scrimmage will be set aside for one-on-one drills between receivers and defensive backs and offensive and defensive linemen. Winners in those drills will add points to their team’s total on the scoreboard.
Additional Information
- Fans are asked to enter the stadium from the northwest gate, southwest gate or the gate adjacent to parking lot 64 (behind the press box). Gates on the east side of the stadium will be closed.
- Season tickets will be on sale before the game in the Indoor Athletic Complex and during the game at the Will Call ticket window outside Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
- Fans are encouraged to park in either lot 63 (south of Kelly/Shorts Stadium) or lot 64 (behind the press box).
