MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan gained votes in both major polls this week after defeating Western Michigan, 34-23, Saturday afternoon.
The Chippewas registered 39 points in the Associated Press poll ballotting and 34 points in the USA Today coaches poll. Those vote totals rank CMU 31st in the AP poll and 29th in the USA Today poll.
In both major polls, point values are assigned to each line on a voter's ballot. A No. 1 vote is worth 25 points, a No. 2 vote is worth 24 points and so on through the No. 25 spot, which is worth one point.
The Sporting News, in its weekly top 25, placed the Chippewas at No. 24.
CMU improved to 6-1 overall, 4-0 in the Mid-American Conference, with Saturday's win over Western Michigan. The Chippewas' six-game winning streak is tied for the sixth-longest streak in the country.
CMU continues MAC play this weekend, visiting Bowling Green at noon Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPN Plus and ESPN GamePlan.
