ATHENS, Ohio — The Central Michigan field hockey team was defeated by Ohio, 5-0, in the final contest of its six-match road trip on Sunday.
The Chippewas (4-12, 2-6 Mid-American) had a difficult time getting on track as they were outshot, 22-5, and the Bobcats owned a 10-4 edge in penalty corners.
“I am very disappointed with our results this weekend,” head coach Cristy Freese said. “We had too many defensive breakdowns and we need to address that. We have to get better effort than what we got this weekend.”
The contest was scoreless until OU’s Marcy Dull scored off a penalty corner in the 29th minute to put the Bobcats up, 1-0. Brook Edwards put Ohio up a pair less than two minutes later as the Bobcats held a 2-0 cushion at the break.
Dull tallied two more goals in the second half to complete her hat trick, one in the 52nd minute and the next in the 62nd minute to increase OU’s lead to four.
Laine Greenawalt capped the scoring with 44 seconds remaining.
Melinda Curran started in goal and stopped seven of 11 shots in 60 minutes between the pipes. Kahla Schwall played the final 10 minutes and allowed one goal.
The Maroon and Gold return home for their final three contests of the season next week. The first match of the home stand will be against Michigan on Wednesday.
