Head Coach Butch Jones
Opening statement:
I thought it was a very disappointing performance overall, but we played a very talented football team. Our goal coming in was to start fast. I thought we did that, but we had the ball on four different occasions with great field position and we came away with zero points. Defensively, minus the one possession, I thought we played extremely well in the first half. In the second half, I thought Boston College came out and established the line of scrimmage and made some plays, and we never really got into any kind of rhythm on offense. I thought we put our defense in some adverse situations with ball control, but hat's off to Boston College. They're a very, very good football team, and deserving to contend for the ACC championship.
On Boston College's defense:
I thought they did a good job of establishing the line of scrimmage, and we became one-dimensional. Any time you do that, you're going to struggle against a talented football team like them.
On the importance of moving past the loss:
We said in the locker room that we can't leave our season here in Boston. We have all of our goals, dreams and aspirations still in front of us. If we started the season saying we'd be 7-2, undefeated in our conference with three games left, two at home and chasing a championship, I think we'd all say to a man that we'll take it. We have to learn from our mistakes, we have to figure out why the things happened, we have to get healthy and we have to go back to work. Everything in our football family is based off the foundation of family and perseverance, and we'll rely on our leaders and our Ownership Committee. We have great character in this football program, and I expect our team to come back tomorrow even hungrier and we'll work on getting better each and every day.
On how beneficial the 11-day break between games will be:
We're going to need the extra days getting healthy and getting refocused for our title stretch. With three games left, it's a three-game playoff. That's the way we'll approach it.
Junior linebacker Nick Bellore
On the play of the CMU defense:
Obviously we have to go back and watch the film, but I didn't think we played very well on third down against the pass. We didn't establish the line of scrimmage, which was huge because that sets everything up. They were able to run the ball on us almost at will, and that can't happen if you want to win games.
On Boston College running back Montel Harris:
I thought he was a really good running back. Very patient, hit the holes and he could really make you miss. I thought he was a really good back.
Junior linebacker Matt Berning
On the play of the CMU defense:
I thought after we scored the whole mentality of their team changed. I thought their sense of urgency picked up being behind in the second quarter, and you could feel them coming out and wanting to score more than we, I guess, wanted to protect our own end zone. I thought that was a critical point in the football game.
On Boston College running back Montel Harris:
He was very good at letting the play develop and seeing where the holes in the defense occurred and then hitting it. He didn't make any quick decisions, which put us as linebackers in a bind having to stay on offensive linemen too long and not being able to fall back.
