MUNCIE, Ind. — Four members of the Central Michigan field hockey team earned All-Mid-American Conference honors, including two first-team selections, on Thursday.
Senior back Kim Erasmus was named first-team All-MAC for the fourth time in her career and senior goalkeeper Melinda Curran joined her on the first team. Senior forward Kelly Jordan and junior back Kim Sihota each earned spots on the All-MAC second team.
Erasmus is the first player in the history of the CMU field hockey program to earn first-team All-MAC laurels four times. She has appeared in 19 contests and was the Chippewas’ top defender on a unit that posted a 1.99 goals against average, the third best figure in the MAC. She is currently tied for the MAC lead with three defensive saves. The Port Elizabeth, South Africa native also chipped in a goal and four assists offensively. She assisted on CMU’s third goal of its MAC Tournament quarterfinal win over host Ball State on Thursday afternoon.
Curran has played in all 20 matches and started all but one in 2009. In 1351 minutes, the Cincinnati, Ohio native posted a 1.92 goals against average (third in the MAC), .767 save percentage (second) and two shutouts (t-second). This is the first time that Curran has earned All-MAC honors.
After missing the entire 2008 season due to injury, Jordan led the Chippewas in every offensive category. The senior tallied 13 goals (t-third in the MAC), nine assists (fourth) and 35 points (third). She also ranks second in the conference with 95 shots. Jordan helped the Chippewas advance to the MAC Tournament semifinals with two goals against host Ball State earlier in the day.
Sihota is another member of CMU’s stellar defense that has allowed two goals or less on 14 occassions this season. The Richmond, British Columbia native is one of only two players on the squad to start every match this season.
The Chippewas return to action on Friday when they face MAC co-champion Ohio at Noon.
