MOUNT PLEASANT - Several hundred fans turned out to the Indoor Athletic Complex Thursday night for the Central Michigan football program's annual Night of Champions.
The culmination of the program's winter conditioning schedule, Night of Champions is one of the key components of the program's Chip Olympics program. Each of the eight Chip Olympics teams competes in eight events at Night of Champions, including a slam-dunk contest, touchdown celebration, water balloon toss and bench press contest.
The Orange team, captained by Sean Murnane, took home the 2009 Night of Champions team title. Members of Murnane's squad were Matt Berning, Paris Cotton, Kirkston Edwards, Darren Keyton, Bobby Seay, Kevin Sweet, Matt Torres, Kyle Torzy and Rocky Weaver. Runner-up was Sam Williams' Green team.
Fans in attendance had the opportunity to interact with CMU's players and coaches, as well as get a glimpse inside the Indoor Athletic Complex. As they entered the IAC, fans were assigned a Night of Champions team for which to root; those assigned the Orange team received a discout coupon for the University Bookstore after Orange was announced as the victor.
CMU opens spring practice on March 17. The Chippewas' spring football game is set for April 18.
