MOUNT PLEASANT Central Michigan University will host its annual spring football game Saturday, April 18 at 6 p.m. at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Admission is free for the spring game.
Several activities are planned in and around Kelly/Shorts Stadium for the event.
The day begins at 1:30 p.m., when the CMU football program will host a program called “A Day with the Chippewas.” The 90-minute event is free for kids ages 12 and under. Attendees will learn football instructional basics, eat lunch with the team, watch a team highlight video and have the opportunity to get autographs from CMU’s players and coaches. The program will take place in Kelly/Shorts Stadium or, in the case of the inclement weather, the Indoor Athletic Complex turf bay.
Registration for the clinic will open at 1 p.m. Questions regarding the kids clinic should be directed to the CMU football offices at 989-774-3896.
Pregame festivities that are open to the general public will continue in the turf bay from 3:30-5:30 p.m. A variety of games and inflatables will be available for kids, as well as areas where kids can try on equipment and uniforms from a number of CMU’s varsity athletics programs. The football team also will be on hand for autographs 3:30-4:30 p.m.
A silent auction of CMU and other football memorabilia also will be held in the IAC turf bay.
Finally, a NASCAR viewing party is planned for the Island in the parking lot north of Kelly/Shorts Stadium following the spring game.
Pregame and postgame events also are planned for 1100 Club and Football Alumni Club members and their families. Both groups are invited to attend a pregame barbecue, watch the spring game from the club level of Kelly/Shorts Stadium and attend a postgame celebration with the CMU coaching staff in the stadium’s club level.
Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to Olivia Lanctot, 1100 Club assistant at 989-774-2842 or lanct1o@cmich.edu.
The CMU Athletic Ticket Office also will be on hand accepting orders for 2009 season tickets. The ticket office will be stationed at the Indoor Athletic Complex during the pregame festivities, then will operate from the Will Call booth at the northwest corner of Kelly/Shorts Stadium prior to the start of the spring game.
Fans planning to attend the spring game are encouraged to park in Lot 64 (west of the stadium) or Lot 63 (south of the stadium).
CMU’s softball team also will be in action on April 18, hosting Kent State at 2 p.m. at Margo Jonker Stadium.
