MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan's football program closed the Spring 2009 semester with a pair of community appearances on Friday.
Members of the program visited Vowles Elementary School early in the day for Recess with the Chippewas. Later in the afternoon, players visited residents of Tendercare in Mount Pleasant. The players in attendance spent time playing games, working puzzles and sharing stories with the Tendercare residents.
The visits capped a spring semester that saw the football program participate in a variety of community service initiatives, including: numerous Recess with the Chippewas visits, the annual Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival, the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event, and Super Chippewa Saturday, in which more than 300 area youngsters participated in a free football clinic hosted by the CMU football program in conjunction with the 2009 spring football game.
The Central C.A.R.E. program helps coordinate weekly community service programs for the CMU football program throughout the school year. For more information on the Central C.A.R.E. program, contact Mike Dabbs at 989-774-2472 or dabbs1mp@cmich.edu.
