MOUNT PLEASANT - Friday was a day off from class and workouts for the Central Michigan football program, but several Chippewas spent their day at school any way.
Nine members of the football program volunteered their time to participate in field day activities at Ganiard Elementary School in Mount Pleasant. The players in attendance helped coordinate various activities and games and spent time with the students throughout the morning.

Friday's trip to Ganiard was the second appearance in as many days at a local school for the football program. Thursday night, Larry Knight and Frank Zombo both spoke at eighth-grade graduation ceremonies at Renaissance Academy.
The CMU football program participates in a wide variety of community service initiatives throughout the year. Since the start of the Spring 2009 semester, the football program's community service efforts have included: numerous Recess with the Chippewas visits, the annual Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival, the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event and Super Chippewa Saturday, in which more than 300 area youngsters participated in a free football clinic hosted by the CMU football program in conjunction with the 2009 spring football game.
The Central C.A.R.E. program helps coordinate weekly community service activities for the CMU football program throughout the school year. For more information on the Central C.A.R.E. program, contact Mike Dabbs at 989-774-2472 or dabbs1mp@cmich.edu.
