The beginning of Saturday’s game was delayed 43 minutes by lightning.
Allen Ollenburger and Matt Berning were gameday captains for CMU, joining permanent captains Dan LeFevour and Nick Bellore.
John Williams’ fumble recovery on Arizona’s first possession was the first of his career. Nick Bellore forced the fumble, his fourth career forced fumble.
Left tackle Jake Olson, receiver Ronnie Kennedy, receiver Sean Skergan, nose tackle John Williams and defensive back Dannie Bolden all made their first career start.
Nick Bellore made his 28th consecutive start, the longest active streak among current CMU players.
The Chippewas were shut out in a half for the first time since the second half of a 35-10 win over Northern Illinois on Sept. 29, 2007.
Josh Gordy’s interception in the third quarter was the eighth interception of his career.
Bryan Anderson and Antonio Brown extended their streaks of consecutive games played with a reception. Anderson has the nation’s longest active streak of games with a reception (41), while Brown has caught a pass in 28 straight games. Both have a caught a pass in every game they have played in their career.
Dan LeFevour punted for the fifth time in his career. Four of his five career punts have been downed inside the 20-yard line.
Dan LeFevour moved into a tie for fourth on CMU’s career rushing touchdowns list with his 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. It was his 33rd career rushing score, matching the career total of Jessie Lakes (1969-71).
LeFevour also tied Walt Hodges (1973-76) and Brian Pruitt (1992-94) on the career touchdowns scored list with 34.
Eleven true or redshirt freshmen saw the first game action of their career Saturday night.
