MOUNT PLEASANT – The Central Michigan gymnastics program has released its schedule for the 2011 season.
"There are high expectations for this team and we need to see some good teams," said CMU head coach Jerry Reighard. "I think that this schedule will help us as we prepare for postseason competition and to compete at a very high level all season long."
CMU will open up their season with a home intrasquad meet on December 3 at 7 p.m.
The Chippewas first event of 2011 will be a trip to Sacramento, Calif. on January 7 for a meet at Sacramento State. Wisconsin-La Crosse and Alaska-Anchorage will also participate in the meet.
CMU will host its first home meet of the season on January 30 when it welcomes the Northern Illinois Huskies to Mount Pleasant. The start time for the meet is 2 p.m. This meet will be held in conjunction with a home CMU wrestling meet at the same time.
"We are also planning to do what is called 'Beauty and the Beast' for our first home meet," said Reighard. "This is a meet held in conjunction with our wrestling team in the arena at the same time. This will be a real crowd pleaser for both fans of Chippewa wrestling and Chippewa gymnastics."
The Chippewas will have two other home meets during the regular season. They have a home meet on February 25 at 7 p.m. with Eastern Michigan, Southeast Missouri State and Alaska-Anchorage. CMU will also host Bowling Green on March 12 at 2 p.m.
The rest of the schedule for CMU includes road trips to Ball State, Illinois State, Kent State, Western Michigan and New Hampshire.
The Chippewas will host the MAC Championships on March 19. The meet will begin at 2 p.m.
