2010 Football Schedule
MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan’s 2010 football schedule was finalized with the release of the Mid-American Conference schedule on Monday.
The Chippewas will host Ball State (Oct. 2), Miami (Oct. 16), Bowling Green (Oct. 30) and Western Michigan (Nov. 5) in conference action. CMU will visit Temple (Sept. 11), Eastern Michigan (Sept. 18), Northern Illinois (Oct. 23) and Toledo (Nov. 26).
Kickoff times for each of CMU’s 12 regular season games will be announced at a later date.
“We’re looking forward to competing against this challenging schedule,” said CMU head coach Dan Enos. “Six of our opponents played in bowl games last season, and five of our seven road games are against opponents who played in bowl games. This is a challenging schedule, but it is an exciting schedule as well.”
After opening the season at home against Hampton on September 2, CMU plays the first of three straight on the road at Temple. It will be the first trip to Temple since 2006 for the Chippewas, who have won both previous meetings over the Owls.
CMU begins defense of its Michigan MAC championship on September 18 when it visits Eastern Michigan, then closes out the road trip with a nonconference date at Northwestern on September 25.
The Chippewas open the month of October at home against Ball State on October 2, then step out of conference for a road trip to Virginia Tech on October 9. CMU closes October by with a pair of home games against MAC East Division opponents—Miami (Oct. 16) and Bowling Green (Oct. 30)—around a road trip to Northern Illinois (Oct. 23). Miami will venture to Kelly/Shorts Stadium for the first time since 1999, while CMU will host Bowling Green for the first time since 2006.
November begins with a primetime, nationally televised home game against rival Western Michigan on Friday, November 5. Back-to-back road games at Navy (Nov. 13) and Toledo (Nov. 26) close out the regular season.
The Marathon MAC Championship Game returns to Ford Field in Detroit on Friday, December 3. ESPN2 will televise the conference title game.
CMU (12-2 overall, 8-0 MAC) finished the 2009 season ranked No. 23 in the Associated Press poll and No. 24 in the USA Today coaches’ poll. The Chippewas defeated Ohio, 20-10, in the MAC Championship Game to win their third conference title in four seasons. CMU capped its season with a 44-41 double-overtime victory over Troy in the GMAC Bowl.
