Patterson Named MAC West Pitcher of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT — Redshirt freshman Sarah Patterson (Lansing, Mich./Okemos HS) from the Central Michigan softball team was named the Mid-American Conference’s West Division Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Patterson fanned eight batters in her five innings of work in CMU’s doubleheader sweep over Detroit. After tossing a scoreless inning in relief during the opener, the Okemos, Mich., native started game two and responded with four scoreless innings and six strikeouts to notch the win.

The redshirt freshman is averaging nearly a strikeout per inning with 21 in 22.1 frames this season after missing the entire 2009 campaign due to an injury.

Central returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Oakland in a doubleheader at Margo Jonker Stadium.
