Spring Practice: Previewing the Tight Ends

MOUNT PLEASANT - CMUChippewas.com's coverage of spring practice continues today with a look at the tight end position.
The Chippewas opened spring drills with just one returning tight end on the roster - junior David Blackburn. He has played in all 27 games over the past two seasons, making eight starts in 2009. His return marks the first time since 2003-04 that CMU has had the same individual starting at tight end in consecutive seasons.
Blackburn caught a pass in 10 different games last season, finishing with 12 receptions for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Both of his touchdown catches came in a 35-3 win at Ball State on Nov. 18.
Walk-on Bryan Erickson has worked at tight end during the spring, and the position will be buoyed by the addition of incoming freshmen Caleb Southworth and Joe Sawicki in the fall.
Check out the CMU Sports Zone video below to hear more from Barry and Blackburn.
