MOUNT PLEASANT - Tuesday morning found the Central Michigan football team hitting the practice field in full pads for the first time.
The Chippewas practiced for a little more than two hours on a balmy and humid morning at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
"We had a great practice today," said head coach Dan Enos. "We worked a lot of different situations today, and we did our first live work of camp. Our defense was very dominant in the short yardage period, but our offense picked it up and was the dominant group during the goal line period. Overall, we think the effort has been very good throughout camp."
After several periods of individual and group drills, the Chippewas spent most of the 11-on-11 portion of practice working short yardage and goal line situations. While the defense held the upper hand through most of the full squad period, but the most entertaining portion of the session came after the offense had a first-and-goal at the 3-yard line. The defense held on three consecutive snaps before Carl Volny pounded across the goal line on fourth down.
The Chippewas' first extended intrasquad scrimmage of camp is slated for Saturday. CMUChippewas.com will provide complete coverage of the scrimmage.
