MOUNT PLEASANT - The 2010 football season is officially underway at Central Michigan University.
First-year head coach Dan Enos led the Chippewas through their first practice of the preseason on Friday afternoon, a two-hour workout on the practice field adjacent to Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
It was the first of 21 workouts before CMU's fall semester begins on Monday, Aug. 23.
"Guys were running around and were excited to be out here," Enos said. "We got a lot of things taught today. Obviously we still have a long way to go, but overall I was very pleased with the effort."
Friday began with early morning position meetings, followed by a team conditioning test. Enos is pleased with the physical conditioning of his squad entering the fall.
"I can't give enough credit to Rick Perry and our strength staff," Enos said. "They've done an outstanding job. Our guys are strong, they're in great condition and they're ready to go."
Saturday begins with a 6:45 a.m. wakeup call for the players, followed by position meetings and a single practice at 9:45 a.m. The Chippewas will practice once a day through Tuesday, completing an NCAA mandated five-day acclimatization period. The preseason's first two-a-day session is scheduled for Wednesday.

Coaches' Poll Recognizes CMU: The Chippewas received one No. 25 vote in the USA Today preseason coaches' poll released on Friday. CMU was one of three Mid-American Conference programs to receive a vote in the poll. The Chippewas finished the 2009 season ranked No. 24 in the coaches' poll.
