No. 5 Duke Hands Chippewas 5-0 Loss

DURHAM, N.C. - Central Michigan had no answer for No. 5 Duke Sunday, falling 5-0.
The Chippewas (8-8) held the Blue Devils (11-5) scoreless for the first 22 minutes of the contest before Caashia Karringten scored the first of her two goals on the day when she redirected a cross from Tara Jennings.
Duke added another goal to extend its lead to two just three minutes later when Emmie Le Marchand's scored at the 25:51 mark on an assist from Devon Gagliardi. Le Marchand tipped in a pass to the post from Gagilardi for her 13th goal of the year.
The Chippewas posted just three shots in the first half, two of which came on back-to-back attempts by junior Erin Dye that were saved by Duke's Samantha Nelson, as they trailed at halftime, 2-0.
Karringten extended the Blue Devils' lead to 3-0 nine minutes into the second half with her second goal of the day on another assist from Jennings. Jessica Buttinger and Rhian Jones scored goals in the final eight minutes of the contest for the decisive 5-0 score.
Dye led the Chippewas, taking three of the four shots on the day, all of which met the keeper. Junior keeper Anastasia Netto made four saves while giving up the five goals to even her record at 8-8 on the season.
The Maroon and Gold return to Mid-American Conference action at Kent State on Saturday. The Chippewas currently sit in second place in the MAC behind Ohio. Saturday's match in Kent, Ohio is set for a 11 a.m., start.
