MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan senior tight end David Blackburn has been named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week.
Blackburn posted one of the top receiving days in school history last weekend at Ball State, catching a career-high nine passes for 194 yards—the fourth highest single game total in school history—and a career-high tying two touchdowns. Blackburn's 194 receiving yards were the most by any player in the Football Bowl Subdivision last weekend.
Blackburn leads CMU with five touchdown receptions in 2011, and his 10 career touchdown catches are tied for the most among active Chippewas.
The John Mackey Tight End of the Week was started in 2004 to draw attention to standout performances by tight ends. The award is presented by the Nassau County Sports Commission, which also administers the John Mackey Award, presented annually to the nation's top tight end.
Blackburn and the Chippewas are back in action Saturday, visiting Akron at noon. The game will be televised as part of the Mid-American Conference's syndication package and will be available online at ESPN3.com.
