MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan field hockey team fell to MAC-leading Ohio Friday afternoon, 2-0, after struggling to get its offense going at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
The Chippewas (5-6, 3-2 MAC) mustered just one shot on goal and four total shots, while allowing Ohio (11-2, 4-0 MAC) six shots on goal on nine total shots.
The loss is just the second on the season at home for the Chippewas, who are now 4-2 within the confines of the CMU Field Hockey Complex. Despite the loss, Central Michigan has outscored its opponents 20-6 on the season.
Friday's loss marks the first time the Chippewas have been shut out since September 17, a 1-0 loss at Iowa. It is the first time the Maroon and Gold have been shut out at home this season.
Senior goalkeeper Anastasia Netto managed to save four shots on the afternoon, but the Bobcats got the ball past her once in each half.
Ohio scored in the 13th minute on a shot fired from the left side of the circle just inside the line to take a 1-0 lead on Taylor Brown's 10th goal of the season. OU's Brooke Edwards assisted on the play.
The Chippewas nearly answered back just moments later when a shot right up the middle of the circle from sophomore forward Abby Roth was knocked away by the Ohio goalkeeper Jen McGill.
The Bobcats found the back of the cage once more in the 58th minute, as Jessica Vaeth deflected a shot by Taylor Brown for the decisive 2-0 score.
Roth, senior midfielder Paulina Lee, freshman forward Cayleigh Immelman and sophomore forward Bailey McKeon each recorded a shot for the Maroon and Gold.
The Chippewas are back in action at the CMU Field Hockey Complex again Saturday as they host Kent State at 1 p.m., on Stick it to Cancer Day.
