MOUNT PLEASANT - Cayleigh Immelman was named to the Division I All-Rookie field hockey squad Monday, adding yet another accolade following her impressive freshman season.
The South Africa native was one of 16 players, and the only player from the Mid-American Conference, named to the squad by the staff at Synapse Sports (formerly womensfieldhockey.com).
Immelman was named the MAC Freshman of the Year and earned first-team All-MAC honors after leading the Chippewas with 12 goals and 33 points and finishing second with nine assists. Her goals and points marks both ranked fourth in the MAC and led all freshmen.
She became just the third MAC Freshman of the Year in program history and the first since Kim Erasmus in 2006. A member of the 2013 U-21 Junior World Cup national team, Immelman tallied at least one point in 12 of the Chippewas' 20 contests and recorded a season-high four points four separate times.
